Private housing scheme: NAB begins probe into state land grab
JHANG: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started investigation into the affairs of a private housing society and revenue officials and sought record from them under Section 19 of the NAB Ordinance 1999.
Inquiry proceedings will take place on Feb 27, according to a NAB notice.
The NAB letter has asked the district council chief officer to provide certified copies of complete approval file, layout plan, up-to-date status and other relevant documents of the private housing society on Jhang-Gojra Road.
Sources said last year the Punjab Danish Schools Management intimated the Jhang deputy commissioner (DC) that 62 state acres were reserved for the construction of the Danish school and after the permission by teh Punjab Board of Revenue the ownership and possession of the state land was entrusted to them in 2009.
The housing colony owners during construction work encroached upon the school land.
Then DC Mudassar Riaz Malik constituted a committee to investigate into the matter which highlighted the role of revenue and other department officials in state land grab.
The DC also ordered the suspension of revenue officials and canceled the preliminary planning permission granted by the district council chief officer for the establishment of the housing society and ordered the stoppage of land sale and purchase deeds of private residential colonies to avoid further grabbing of state land.
After the transfer of the DC, revenue officials managed their postings in the revenue circles while the colonies began land transactions.
Land record computerisation work has not been completed in urban revenue circles.
Last month, the Federal Board of Revenue’s Faisalabad additional commissioner raided the office of a private residential colony and took the custody of the financial record.
District Council Chief Officer Anwar Baig said that in compliance with the letter, the required record would be provided to the NAB.
